RUSS MANNING AWARD NOMINEE VANESA R. DEL REY’S ART SPOTLIGHTED IN ‘HIT: PEN & INK’

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce the October debut of the newest comic to join the PEN & INK program, HIT: PEN & INK. Following the first two PEN & INK books that focused on the art of Brian Stelfreeze and Humberto Ramos, this oversized book collects issues #1-2 of the HIT miniseries, presenting Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award-nominated Vanesa R. Del Rey’s original linework at the true artboard dimensions of 11” x 17”, complete with creative, behind-the-scenes commentary from both Del Rey and creator and writer Bryce Carlson. This edition takes a closer look at her timeless, haunting artwork on HIT, her comics debut.

“BOOM! is based in Los Angeles, so HIT is a personal look into the complicated history of our city,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon.“Vanesa was such an amazing find. She’s incredibly talented and she garnered a lot of attention for her work, and deservedly so. We just had to strip HIT’s art down to the bare inks and show off her craft in-depth. She and Bryce have included some fascinating commentary that’s going to be a real treat for all you process-piece fans out there.”

Gain a whole new appreciation of HIT, our critically acclaimed detective noir series set in 1955 Los Angeles, in HIT: PEN & INK. While infamous gangster Mickey Cohen rots in a prison cell, clandestine groups of LAPD detectives moonlight as sanctioned hitmen known as “Hit Squads.” HIT: PEN & INK will give you a deeper understanding of the creative decisions that went into this series with insightful commentary by writer Bryce Carlson and artist Vanesa R. Del Rey (THE EMPTY MAN, Zero).

HIT: PEN & INK #1 arrives in comic book shops on October 29th with a cover by Vanesa R. Del Rey for the price of $14.99. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one!
