Henry Chamberlain Observes 10th Anniversary of 24-Hour Comics Day at Hotel Max in Seattle

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Well, no rest for the wicked. September is going to be a very busy month and I see it as flying by faster than almost I can keep up with it. But keep up with it I will. We have a number of new book releases and exciting new comic book titles rolling out. I also have my own little tempest in a teacup, my 24-Hour Comics Day drawing marathon. I will be at Hotel Max in Seattle that first Sunday-Monday of October. I need to make that distinction since the official observance of the annual 24-Hour Comics Day is the first weekend in October. However, due to scheduling matters, we’re going with October 5-6 and that still works out just fine. Cool? Cool!

So, if you happen to want to touch base, maybe even share some drawing time, just shoot me an email. Otherwise, just visit Comics Grinder. I will update you about the whole thing before, during, and after. Yeah, I’ll start by posting some quick warmup drawings and then we’ll go from there and eventually post what I did that night and go on to add details in the refinement stage.

We’ll also be rolling to and end my current GoFundMe fundraising campaign that long first weekend in October. That campaign comes to and end on October 6. We’ll raise a glass no matter what.

It’s been 10 years since the first organized observance of the 24-Hour Comics Day by Nat Gertler. But the tradition dates back even further. It all began with a dare, back in 1990, as comics creator and historian Scott McCloud relates here.

Heck, if you really want to know about comics, then stick around Scott McCloud’s site here. He is, after all, the author of, among other titles, the groundbreaking “Understanding Comics.” We will be looking over this year’s “Best American Comics 2014,” edited by Scott McCloud, a little later on this month. I told you, it’s going to be a busy month.

  1. As I have recently began learning how to do manga-style art, I might try this out here in Arizona at Jesse James Comics. Furthermore, will be opening an online shop soon for recently published mini-comic, “Adventures of Wally Wu Shu” on jdthomaswriter.com.
