George Floyd Will Never Be Forgotten
As Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) said at today’s funeral, “George Floyd was on a mission.” His purpose shines on as his memory moves progress forward. There’s no turning back. Rosa Parks. Emmett Till. Trayvon Martin. George Floyd. Some of us are on such a mission. Their memory sparks change. George Floyd Will Never Be Forgotten.
Sometimes those that become unexpected martyrs out of nowhere can be the strongest catalysts for change. It’s amazing that it’s world-wide and other countries are tearing down offensive historic statues.
George Floyd is the right person at the right time. It all leads to a big step forward. We’ve entered the era of George Floyd.
He was on a mission? Mission to do what? I thought the man was on meth.
To say that a man is on a mission is shorthand for what has been said already, especially by religious leaders. Within the context of what’s happened, the idea is that Mr. Floyd, while not perfect, was chosen for a greater purpose. I don’t know what you thought of the eulogy by Rev. Al Sharpton but maybe it got to you in a good way. It did me. I was moved by it. Lines like…”If you had any idea that preachers, white and black, was going to line up in a pandemic, when we’re told to stay inside and we come out and march in the streets at the risk of our health, you’d have took your knee off his neck, because you thought his neck didn’t mean nothing. But God made his neck to connect his head to his body. And you have no right to put your knee on that neck.”
