Meet Trump’s New Fixer: The Attorney General of the United States. Illustration by Henry Chamberlain.
Working for Trump is not the first time that Attorney General William Barr has been called upon to clean up a mess. Barr had the very same job of Attorney General under George H.W. Bush where he presided over making the Iran-Contra scandal fade away. Papa Bush, with Barr’s whole-hearted support, pardoned six key people from the Reagan administration who were involved, including former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger.
If Barr saw no problem in absolving players in Iran-Contra, one of the biggest scandals since Watergate, then he certainly has no problem in helping to somehow make the Mueller report go away; clear Trump & Co. of any and all charges; and just perform his role as a smug little henchman doing his master’s bidding.
What I’m mystified about is he supposedly had a “pretty good reputation” (up until now).
What does that even mean? A good reputation with the people he helped squirm out of responsibility? And how does anything he’s doing now differ from then. He has the SAME reputation, not one that’s changed. He’s very stable, actually, in his Master of the Universe machinations, isn’t he?
Barr is a sophisticated version of Sarah Sanders. People are too busy to care and continue protesting. I like that Elizabeth Warren is calling for impeachment. I think the impeachment process should take place without hesitating and wondering if it’s worthwhile even if it fails. Just do it and have it documented for generations to come.
PS: Love your drawing. It makes me queasy. You captured the slimy soul of those two!
Thank you! I must say, I’ve been doing far more Trump drawings than I ever did Obama drawings. Trump is our Nixon, actually far, far worse than Nixon. We’re just not so easily shocked now. Nixon had to be convinced by Goldwater that it was time to leave but he finally did it. Maybe Mueller thought momentum would build towards impeachment. That was at least Plan A. I’m sure he’s mapped out Plan B, C, D, and so on. Ultimately, once he’s out of office, Trump should be indicted.
